Dubrovnik has a long history of good governance (see more on Dubrovnik history) that continues to this day. Small surprise that Dubrovnik’s mayor, Dubravka Suica, has been proclaimed one of the top ten most successful mayors in the world, according to the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.
Currently Dubrovnik is challenged by a dramatic influx of tourists that threatens to overwhelm resources. Despite being nearly loved to death, Dubrovnik returns the favor by providing new services for its lucky visitors.
For example, Dubrovnik airport has instituted a modern electronic system so visitors can instantly see available accommodation. Cool. Also cool, IMO, is the new proposal to charge a parking fee for tour buses bringing tourists to Pile Gate. Naturally tour operators have a different view.
And if you’re planning on staying at the Hotel Excelsior, well, you’ll have to wait. This five-star pleasure palace is closed for a few months while renovation of an older portion continues.
