No! Ever since the end of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/History.htm\">Homeland War<\/a> in 1995 a tiny sliver of Bosnian territory at Neum created a border between the northern and southern coast. Although the idea was to give Bosnia an outlet to the sea, Croatians found the situation unsatisfactory. Croatians and visitors were obligated to pass through a border control that could become clogged in the busy summer months. It also created a problem for Croatia&#8217;s eventual accession to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/Practicalities\/BorderFormalities.html\">Schengen zone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Enter the EU which agreed to cover 85% of the cost, with Croatia covering the other 15%. A Chinese company won the tender and work on the four-lane bridge began in 2018. It was supposed to be completed in 2021 but what major infrastructure project ever finishes on time?<\/p><div id=\"croat-1232744614\" class=\"croat-content_2 croat-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4787844071747328\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4787844071747328\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7926307719\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>The opening of the bridge on 26 July was the event of the year in Croatia, attended by politicians, celebrities and dignitaries. Bosnians were less enthused, worried about the bridge&#8217;s impact on their own tourism. Although initially worried about the bridge&#8217;s impact on the oyster farms on\u00a0 Mali Ston bay, the people of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/southern_dalmatia\/Peljesac\/Ston.htm\">Mali Ston<\/a> were reassured by many environmental impact studies.\u00a0 Very enthused about the bridge would be anyone on the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/southern_dalmatia\/Peljesac\/Peljesac.htm\">Peljesac Peninsula<\/a> which is now easier to access for both residents and tourists.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will also find it easier to access <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/southern_dalmatia\/korcula\/KorculaIsland.htm\">Korcula Island<\/a> by car. The overcrowded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/Local-Ferries\/Ploce-Trpanj.html\">Ploce-Trpanj ferry<\/a> can now be bypassed. Just drive to the pretty coastal village of <strong>Komarna<\/strong> and take the bridge to <strong>Brijesta. <\/strong>Pick up the road to Orebic and board the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/Local-Ferries\/Orebic-Domince.html\">Orebic-Domince<\/a> ferry to Korcula. Or, just continue down the coast to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/southern_dalmatia\/Dubrovnik\/dubrovnik_index.htm\">Dubrovnik<\/a>.
