But rules are meant to be broken! <strong>Adriana Restaurant<\/strong> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/central%20dalmatia\/Split.htm\">Split<\/a> is right smack in the centre of Riva, Split&#8217;s harbourside promenade, and the quality is excellent.<\/p><div id=\"croat-1010203725\" class=\"croat-content croat-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4787844071747328\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4787844071747328\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7926307719\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>I wandered into the restaurant a few weeks ago, weary and footsore after a day of sightseeing.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s a spacious outdoor terrace but, as the weather was chilly, I was happy to settle into an elegant interior of burnished wood and soft lighting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2269\" src=\"http:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/adriana.jpg\" alt=\"Interior of Adriana restaurant, Split\" width=\"557\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/adriana.jpg 557w, https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/adriana-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The waiter was formal and slightly intimidating in keeping with the overall style of the restaurant. He strongly recommended the grilled calamari which I ordered as it&#8217;s one of my favorites anyway. The wine list displayed a good selection of Croatia&#8217;s finest wines. I settled on a <em>Plavac<\/em> from Peljesac.<\/p><div id=\"croat-586814553\" class=\"croat-content_2 croat-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4787844071747328\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4787844071747328\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7926307719\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>While waiting for the main course, the waiter brought over a fish pat\u00c3\u00a9 which is a standard palate-tickler in Croatia. It was good but the grilled calamari was outstanding. It was priced at 140Kn\u00c2\u00a0(\u00e2\u201a\u00ac19) per portion which seemed expensive to me. I remember (way back!) when I could get a grilled calamari plate for 90Kn but those days are over. In fact, 140Kn\u00c2\u00a0 for a plate of fresh calamari is now considered reasonable.<\/p>\n<p>The calamari was succulent. Tender but chewy, gently perfumed with parsley and garlic, it couldn&#8217;t have been better. The <em>Plavac<\/em> was also excellent but quite expensive.
