First, I was delighted with the location, just steps from the entrance to the Roman ruins of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/central%20dalmatia\/Solin.htm\">Salona<\/a> and only 5km from central <a href=\"http:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/central%20dalmatia\/Split.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Split<\/a>.<\/p><div id=\"croat-2745407950\" class=\"croat-content croat-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4787844071747328\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4787844071747328\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7926307719\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.croatiatraveller.com\/Heritage_Sites\/Diocletian%27sPalace.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2256\" src=\"http:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salonapalaceexterior.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salonapalaceexterior.jpg 550w, https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salonapalaceexterior-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/>Diocletian&#8217;s Palace<\/a> in Split gets all the love but long before Emperor Diocletian built his palace, there was the bustling Roman town of Salona. Unlike Diocletian&#8217;s Palace, Salona is largely ignored by tourists which makes wandering the ruins all the more evocative.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2251\" src=\"http:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salona-basilica2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salona-basilica2.jpg 557w, https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salona-basilica2-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The four-star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/hr\/salona-palace.en-gb.html?aid=322276\">Hotel Salona Palace <\/a>is brand new but firmly planted in the remarkable history of Salona. The hotel is designed as a cross, in a clear homage to Salona&#8217;s importance to early Christians. The bright, airy rooms have decorative flourishes recalling the design motifs of Salona&#8217;s elaborate tombs. Roman baths were surely relaxing but nothing like the fully equipped spa and wellness centre at the Salona Palace. Guests can try a &#8220;Salona Sauna&#8221; or stick with a Finnish or Turkish sauna. <em>Mens sana in corpore sano<\/em>? It&#8217;s easy to stay in shape with a fitness room and two swimming pools (interior and exterior), each equipped with a counter-current.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/hr\/salona-palace.en-gb.html?aid=322276http:\/\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2253\" src=\"http:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salonapalacespa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salonapalacespa.jpg 557w, https:\/\/croatiatraveller.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/salonapalacespa-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a>The rooms are spacious and have balconies overlooking the pool or the street. Beds are super-comfy with hypoallergenic pillows and the finest quality sheets. Bathrooms are roomy with bathtubs or walk-in showers plus high-end toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. Local stone and wood was used whenever possible on floors and walls which are a pleasure to touch. Landscaping was in progress during my visit but the grassy terraces and local shrubbery are sure to be soothing. The effect is gentle and environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<p>An added bonus is the free shuttle between the hotel and <strong>Kasjuni<\/strong>, one of Split&#8217;s finest beaches. Kasjuni is at the foot of Marjan hill and bordered by a pine forest. The #1 bus from Split stops just outside the hotel.
