No Pal PayPal

What’s the story with PayPal anyway? Why have they blacklisted Croatia? It’s unbelievable that you can send and receive PayPal payments from a whole variety of unsavoury countries while Croatia is on the fecal roster along with Serbia & Montenegro, Bosnia and all other countries of former Yugoslavia except Slovenia. Small businesses in Croatia, particularly little guesthouses have to irritate their clients by demanding expensive SWIFT transfers when a PayPal transfer would be so simple.

According to Croatia Traveller

While hotels may take a reservation based upon a credit card deposit, this is not an option for private accommodation. Particularly in high season, owners may insist upon a SWIFT bank transfer to hold a reservation. Bank charges can run up to $30 per transfer!

The best thing tourism officials could do for small owners is pressure PayPal to change their policy.
