Distress in Dubrovnik

July 8th 2005 10:18 am

I just spoke to a good friend of mine in Dubrovnik who informs me that cruise passengers have taken over the town! They’re coming! They’re coming! They’re here! Frankly Dubrovnik is adorable and has a fascinating history but who would want to just run through without staying a few nights at least? The cozy little town center is virtually nose-to-nose with tourists. I say, settle down and stay a while. You don’t “do” Dubrovnik (how I hate that term), you “visit” Dubrovnik. You fall in love with Dubrovnik. You try to ignore the sun-burned hordes trampling the marble streets.

  1. Ugh, tourists can be so irritating. If I were to visit, I’d want to stay for a few months, at least. I wonder if there are any jobs for an American desperately trying to escape the US for awhile? I’ve heard it’s beautiful there.
