Archive for January, 2008
It’s only January but already those who will travel to Croatiathis summer have a good idea of the Croatia ferries timetables both domestic and international. In fact, the ferry schedules are remarkable similar to last year. If you will be taking a ferry from Italy to Croatia, you can already plan your trip based on the Bari to Dubrovnik, Ancona to Split, Ancona to Zadar or Pescara to Split schedules that have just been published. The only international routes yet to be scheduled are last year’s Venice to Istria, Mali Losinj and Zadar passenger ferries.
Stay tuned for those updated schedules.
Once you get to Croatia, you can plan your itinerary according to the recently issued coastal ferry schedule that runs from Rijeka to Dubrovnik as well as the local ferries from the mainland to Croatia’s islands. Most services are run by Jadrolinija, Croatia’s national ferry company.
The new daily connection between Valbiska on Krk Islandand Lopar on Rab Island makes a, exploration of Croatia’s islands in the northern Adriatic much easier. Up until now, the only connection between the two islands was the June to September Baska to Lopar connection.
There is still no word on the popular Dubrovnik to Korcula passenger boat that allowed Dubrovnik visitors to make a day trip to Korcula Island last year. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. The route from Dubrovnik to Korcula to Hvar to Split by ferry is popular with Croatia’s visitors but it only runs a few times a week.

Not all airlines have posted their summer timetables of flights to Croatia but some flight patterns are emerging. Overall, Croatia Airlines, Croatia’s national carrier, has the most international flights to the most destinations (in addition to having a monopoly on domestic routes). British Airways has apparently pulled its Gatwick-Split route although it still runs flights from Gatwick to Dubrovnik Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Also in a cutting frame of mind is Easyjet which no longer has a Bristol-Rijeka flight and Wizzair which has also shaken off Split but maintains its Luton-Zagreb route. Here are some other routes:
- Easyjet flies
- from Bristol to Split Saturdays starting April 26 and Wednesdays starting May 21
- from Gatwick to Split daily from April 21
- Ryanair flies
- from Dublin to Zadar Wednesdays and Saturdays from April 2
- from London Stansted to Zadar Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays from March 31
- from London Stansted to Pula Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from April 1.
Thomsonfly flies
- from Gatwick to Dubrovnik Sundays startingMay 4
- from Luton to Dubrovnik Sundays starting July 6
- from Manchester to Dubrovnik Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from May 2
- from Birmingham, Doncaster-Sheffield, Gatwick, Luton and Mancester to Pula Tuesdays from May 6
